chris_tribble Posted June 26, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 26, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've searched through the forum and not found a reference to this http://www.reddotcameras.co.uk/content/11-leica-500-trade-in. Apologies if it's a duplicate posting. If not - it's a clear indication that the M240 is at the end of its run and Leica are clearing stock. Of course it will have an impact on second hand prices, so it feels a bit unfair of Leica - but it's how it is and if you're in the market for the M240 (which will continue to be an outstandingly good RF camera for many years to come) it looks like an excellent deal. Advertisement Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Hi chris_tribble, Take a look here New UK £500 trade-in. A sign of things to come in September. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Steve Ricoh Posted June 26, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 26, 2016 Leica ran a similar deal on the M240 last year, through the summer and autumn. Only difference, as I see it, last summer/autumn it was a straight £500 reduction, but here it seems to be dependent on a trade in. You could have come to the same conclusion then regarding clearing stock, but here we are 12 months on, though it's more likely to be the run-out as we get ever closer to the release of the next digital M. Bill Livingston Posted June 26, 2016 Share #3 Posted June 26, 2016 I took advantage of a trade in when the M-P was launched. Late 2014. i can't remember the figure, but I'm pretty sure it was a £500 guaranteed trade in on any digital SLR. I recal buying an old Nikon DSLR for £70 and walking back to Leica Mayfair... It was at their suggestion!

almoore Posted June 27, 2016 Share #5 Posted June 27, 2016 This is very discriminating!!! The program is only available to UK residents. To be fair to UK residents, they need every break they can get right now as the pound rapidly sinks towards equivalence with the Albanian lek. willeica Posted June 27, 2016 Share #6 Posted June 27, 2016 This is very discriminating!!! The program is only available to UK residents. John Shape of things to come? Selective on/off discounting of this nature is a feature of most markets, particularly towards the end of a product cycle when stocks build up. You win some and you lose some. It's only a camera after all. If Leica continues to prosper, there'll be another camera/offer next year. William

Olsen Posted June 28, 2016 Share #8 Posted June 28, 2016 Since this is only available to Brits it got something to do with the currency. The British Pound has been very strong. Far stronger than when prices of the 240 was set. Brexit has been regarded as a factor that might have the Pound fall towards Euro etc. But that has not happened. The Pound is still very strong. jto555 Posted June 28, 2016 Share #9 Posted June 28, 2016 The Pound is still very strong. Not really. The Pound had a 5 year high of €1.44 and a low of €1.10, with a 10 year high of €1.52. Today (28th June) it closed at €1.20. (http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=GBP&to=EUR&view=5Y) So not that strong really. If you are in the UK and were holding off on buying that Leica, buy it now. The price may go up.
chris_tribble Posted June 29, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted June 29, 2016 Not really. The Pound had a 5 year high of €1.44 and a low of €1.10, with a 10 year high of €1.52. If you are in the UK and were holding off on buying that Leica, buy it now. The price may go up. And if you're primarily looking for a rangefinder camera and aren't concerned about working with the external EVF you really can't go wrong with the M240. My only reason for changing is that I'd really like to be able to use long M and R lenses on the M body - buying an SL doesn't work for me in terms of bulk and the extra body to cart around. IF the new M has EVF performance comparable to the SL then it will be the choice for me (high ISO would be nice but isn't a deal breaker...) If it doesn't then I'll stick with my M240s and spend my upgrade fund on an SL (used if I can get one )
