jonoslack Posted June 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi There Many of you may have read about my ebay problem with a lens which turned out to be stolen. Well, Leica UK have (quite rightly) held on to the lens to return to the original customer. What they have also done is: 1. to send me back my lens hood 2. to code another lens I had sent in free of charge. They are easy to get hold of, helpful and knowledgeable. What a change to other camera manufacturers I have dealt with!

DaveEP Posted June 8, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 8, 2007 This is indeed good news, assuming the original owner has not had the insurance - in whch case it actually belongs to the insurance company and not him So, how are we supposed to go about authenticating any S/H lenses we buy (I have several) and then registering with Leica that we are now the current owner, just in case they get stolen? The last thing I want is one of my lenses being sent back to some one who bought it in 1983, may have sold it in (say) 1985, then it's gone through several other people's hand since then. You get the idea.....

As far as the second point is concerned - I don't think there is any question of lenses being sent back to original owners on that basis - this lens had been reported as stolen a week or two previously. Leica UK do have a list of lenses reported as stolen, perhaps you can ring them up and ask?

Baxter Posted June 8, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 8, 2007 Hi There Well, the original owner's deal with his insurance company is not really our issue. It seems that if he has been paid by insurance and then Leica return lens directly to him, he gets his cake and eats it. Just a thought, if payment has been made, presumably insurance company are seeking to recover money for the lens and might offer to you as first refusal being the innocent party who is out of pocket.
