MEB Posted June 11, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am considering buying an R 100mm apo macro Elmarit for use on my SL and perhaps on my Sony A7RII. I have no experience with Leica R lenses but have read extensively that they were often outstanding lenses that should work very well on the SL. As far as I can tell the ROM equipped lenses are optically identical to the non-ROM lenses. Will that feature make any important difference for use on my SL (especially after the Leica R-L adapter is released)? The ROM lenses are somewhat harder to find and seem to be about 200-300 more costly than the non-ROM versions. Thanks for your help, Mark

wildlightphoto Posted June 11, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 11, 2016 Without any definitive knowledge about the upcoming adapter, conjecture that the adapter will pass lens properties to the camera isn't unreasonable. This would mean that the user need not manually select a lens from the camera's R menu. I personally doubt there will be any other advantage.
Leicaiste Posted June 11, 2016 Share #3 Posted June 11, 2016 It is still possible to have R lenses ROMed at Wetzlar. They did it to my R 19/2,8 V2 earlier this year.
thighslapper Posted June 11, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 11, 2016 Just get the best condition one you can find ...... with or without ROM. The lens is optically superb and excellent as a portrait lens as well as macro use. I think the likelihood of a SL-R adapter with a mechanical actuation of the aperture is small .... and hardly worth the effort for the small market for it anyway.
