Now Files Sent From LR6 Are Write Protected

I apparently spoke too soon as I am clearly not out of the woods yet.  Yes, I can now access my plug ins & external editors from LR6, but I just discovered after working on a LR file in a NIK plug in that when I attempt to save the changes, it stops mid way & advises that changes can't be saved as the files are write protected.

I've checked & the external hard drive that I moved them onto is clearly stated to be with read & write privileges, so I am assuming this must be something that LR6 is doing on its own to the files upon my exercise of the "edit in" function of the Library tool bar.  But at this point I am stymied.  Any thoughts out there?

The problem appears to stem from erratic behavior by my new external hard drive, a 2TB G-Tech G-Drive (Gen 6). I discovered that it wasn't always making itself available to LR; in fact, it wasn't always accessible to work with my computer at all. Some times when I attempted to open it up by clicking on its icon on my desktop, it would not open or when it finally did after a very long delay, it would display an empty drive, with all of my photo files missing. Other times after restarting the computer the external drive wasn't on the desk top & I got a warning that it could not be opened.  So when it finally did come back online, I transferred all of my LR photo files back to my internal drive, using LR to do so even tho it took much longer than using the OS finder. But I plan to replace it as my internal drive doesn't have enough capacity to house large photo folders.
