Leica S body cover?

Hello folks! I have Leica S 006 and would like to purchase a cover to protect the rubber and other parts of the body. I did my search, but I was surprised not to find any product other than Luigi covers from http://www.leicatime.com/

What kind of covers do you guys use for your Leica S bodies, preferably those that fit the camera with the battery grip? Thanks in advance.

I'd be surprised if many use one (which would account for your findings).  Part of the appeal for me (when I demo-ed the 006) is the wonderful feel of the camera and the fact that it's fully weather sealed, built like a tank and ergonomically pleasing (and I assume not brutally cold to the touch like an M in cold weather).  It certainly doesn't need to be babied IMO.

But, then again, I've shunned cases even for Ms.

As always, YMMV.

I didn't know until this thread that Luigi offered a case for the S cameras! I don't need one but I expect that the quality would be good. On the other hand the wrist strap looks good. I got the Leica one that you use with the grip too but I don't like it much (since it makes it hard to use with or without the grip fitted).

I wouldn't think that it would be possible to design a case that fitted over the vertical grip as well though. The shapes would be difficult if not impossible to match.

I guess it depends on how you carry and use your S camera but my S2 and now S (Typ 007) show no signs of any finish wear or rubber slippage after about 22 000 exposures so far. I have seen a couple of forum reports on the rubber coming loose, but I have not seen that personally. My cameras are in a padded roller case when not in use.

Mine doesn't have the rubber slippage but there is a small area where the most superficial thin layer of rubber is coming off. That's why I thought that having the body covered would make it less prone to expansion.

Overall, I agree with you guys that the body is sturdy and very well made. But Canon 1D series bodies are also very sturdy, and I did have the cover on mine. That's why I came up with this idea for Leica S.

Thanks for all of you guys who responded. It's much appreciated.

That seems like a production/QC issue, which I would expect the company to address....for free, assuming no unusual abuse.

If my car came with a bad paint job, my solution wouldn't be to buy a cover for it.

Thanks, Jeff. I guess that's what I'd do.

I have had LIUGI leather half-cases for my S2, 006 and 007s since 2011. They are beautifully made and have been very useful. One time in the Antarctic I fell and dropped an S2 on a snow covered rock. the case took the hit and the camera was unscathed... Another time in the Sahara, the case protected against micro sand that disabled several of my friends unprotected Canon and Nikons. Would never leave home without it..

PS. I have black with detachable back for easier screen view.

If you  are at all interested, make sure that Luigi shows you the multiple iterations that he designed. A lot of thought and planning went into the design of these half cases... Some have an opening for the ports on the left side (ie the timer etc...)

I haven't used my S00-6 for quite a while but before I left for work I noticed that the rubber on the CF card door has come away from the body............pissed off. I will take it to a shoe repair shop when I get home and see if they can repair it :(

Mine had the same Neil,

My S 006 had a lot of other problems as well so went back to Germany they replaced everything in the camera except the sensor and the housing. Even the bayonet was replaced?!

So it seemed I had gotten a Lemon, but all is fine now replaced all the stuff for free, so I can't complain...

They also rerubbered the whole body.

Jip

I will just glue it back together as I want to shoot with it, if after the trip it continues to give me grief I will send it back to Germany and have them fix it :)
