DOF preview button

Need some help.  When I press the DOF preview button on the front of the camera (with the 24-90), it brings up "gray card", not the DOF preview.  I did not reprogram the button.  Resetting to factory defaults did not correct the issue. I can't find anything in the "manual" that speaks to this issue.  Have recently installed the new firmware.  It is a feature that I rarely use, so I can't specifically recall whether it worked in the past with the previous firmware.

Can any of you advise on how to fix this issue, and why it would show "gray card", a feature which I do use?

Thanks.

The FN button is not a "DoF preview button".

  • The default long-press assignment is to make a gray card reading for custom white balance.
  • The short-press function is to cycle the display through normal view, aperture simulation view (the DoF preview mode), and exposure simulation view (includes full time simulation) as well).

If you have it set for the defaults and held it too long when you pressed it, it will give you the long-press function for a gray card reading. If you do a short press, you'll see a green dot appear in the viewfinder next to the aperture readout. Another short press will add a green dot on the exposure time readout, and a third short press will return the view to normal. (The view returns to normal after an exposure as well.)

(I normally assign the lens profile selection menu to this button as my long press setting.)

Many thanks.  That is very helpful.  Time for someone to write a comprehensive and comprehensible manual for the SL.
