MEB Posted May 8, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 8, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone tried to connect wirelessly to either an iPhone or an iPad? I have firmware v2.0 on my SL and the menu entries don't seem to match up with the instructions in the owner manual. I installed the SL program on my iPad and iPhone but they have no internal instructions and I cannot seem to match things up. Has anyone had success with this since the release of update 2.0? Thanks, Mark

ramarren Posted May 8, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 8, 2016 I do it quite frequently, with both iPad and iPhone. I never read any instructions. Enable WiFi in the menu with the control your camera from an app option. Open Settings in the iDevice and tap WiFi. The Leica SL will shortly show up in the menu to pick from. Tap the Leica SL entry. Use the passcode on the LCD screen of the camera to log into it. Start the Leica SL app. After a moment, tap the control to connect to the camera. You can also configure the camera to connect to a local WiFi network if you want to have access to the net from your device while you are using the camera. For that you need to use the menu selections to set up the name of the WiFi network and the password, then enable WiFi, then connect to the camera with the Leica SL app and provide the passcode. Firmware 2.0 and the latest revision of the Leica SL app seem to be quite reliable in doing this. The instructions in the manual were written before the SL actually shipped and may have some errors. MEB Posted May 9, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted May 9, 2016 Ramarren--thank you. I was finally able to get the camera linked to the iPad but it was a very fragile connection. Even though the camera was never more than 1 meter from the iPad the connection kept breaking. I'm not sure what the problem is but I will keep playing with it. The idea of remotely controlling the camera via the iPad is fun but the main reason that I want the connection is to use the incredible image quality of the iPad (latest version of iPad Pro) to review critical shots before leaving the scene. brill64 Posted May 9, 2016 Share #4 Posted May 9, 2016 turn both camera & iphone/ipad power saving off or they'll disconnect?
LocalHero1953 Posted May 9, 2016 Share #5 Posted May 9, 2016 I have connected SL with an android phone. It works, but I haven't used it much. I get a range of around 6m, which is what I got with a OMD EM5ii I had last year. Actually the sleep function didn't seem to have an impact: the wifi connection over-rode sleep settings on both phone and app.

Hmm. iPad Pro? I have both the 12.3 and 9.7 inch models and they both work with the Leica SL app and SL camera robustly. What version of iOS is running? I'm on the latest, v9.3.1. Do you have them in a case? That could be an influence; I have mine in the Apple cases. Are you in a particularly busy WiFi area? turn both camera & iphone/ipad power saving off or they'll disconnect? I've not found this to be necessary.
