Lens cap for Leica Q with hood installed

Just received Leica Q.

Is it normal for the Leica hood to be really tight initially?

Does it get more tight with a 49mm filter on?

I could not get it to the point where some click sounds.  So I stopped, afraid I may twist the lens assembly off.

Does it matters if the hood is not screwed all the way?

Finally, with the hood on, is it possible to use a lens cap on the filter or just the summilux/1.7?

Thanks.

Paul

You can screw the hood all the way. It will not click. It will just stop. you should screw it all the way to avoid having some vignetting.

The lens and the hood are very tight and this is a good thing.

The filter does not touch the hood, if it does, use another one as it should not touch it.

Last question, I do not understand it...

I have completely stopped using a lens cap. The hood is excellent for protecting the front of the lens. For me the lens cap is completely unnecessary when using the hood. One less thing to drop or lose.

The only reason to use the cap is dust protection in day to day use or element protection particularly close to the see. As the hood provides enough physical protection to the lens or the UV filter.

Somewhat unconventional, but I use an Op/Tech Hood Hat Mini for my Leica Q and have been most happy with its performance. The Hood Hat Mini (not the Mini PK) actually covers most of the Q Lens. I am very pleased with it.

Same here, but I must say I don't walk with the long Leica strap and the Q 'out in the wind', instead I have a little bag, ensuring a reasonably clean environment 99% of the time. I understand someone using the long strap will be more annoyed with dirt a priori...

B&W 49 MRC Nano Clear

Same here. I almost never used UV filters on my cameras and its a long time since I purchased one for my Q. But with a 4000€ camera I'm not taking any risk so I attached that filter to my lens.

Thanks all.

The hood did loosen up and now stops solidly at some point, reassuringly.

The cap is tight and takes a little effort to put on, easy to remove.

Got the thumbs-up today and this really helps with the ergonomics.  The color matches perfectly.

I also sometimes keep the Q in a small bag when I'm walking around. It depends on how spontaneous I want to be with taking photos.
