M240 Battery Age Warning

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I decided to do one of my periodic battery drain and recharge routines.

My camera was one of the first M240 sold by Red Dot Cameras so is almost exactly 3 years old.

Both the two original batteries showed a "Check Battery Age" warning in red on the screen when I switched the camera on.

The third battery, which is about 2 years old, did not show this message.

As far as I can tell all the batteries discharged as normal and have been recharged with no apparent problems.

What am I to make of this and, perhaps more importantly, how am I supposed to check the batter age other than the date I wrote on the identifying sticker which I put on them?

Its a software bug in the M240: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/251111-check-battery-age/ we're all hoping that Leica will remove the false warning via a firmware update (eventually). I think it appears after 2 years from battery manufacture (see date code on battery), so you can probably expect the 3rd one to start showing it soon...
