I am interested in finding an adapter to use my Nikon S lenses on my Leica M (or if not possible my Sony A7S). I have seen various adapter to the Leica M which say they are only good for lenses longer than 50mm, but my main use would be for 50mm and some wide angle lenses (the 35mm Nikkor f1.8 I currently have, as well as the CV 25mm, some old Nikon 35mm pancake and, if I buy it, the old Nikkor 28mm f3.5).

I have seen some Contax to Leica (and sony) adapter which clim they are good for wide angle and 50mm - for example this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331235247869

But they are for Contax and not Nikon S lenses. Could I still use them or is there a better option?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

My 1.8/35 did fit inside Amedeo Mombelli's (amedeo.m on e-bay) adapter to Sony-E. But it did not work as smooth as it should and was not at all easily removed from this adaptor, both due to friction of the lense's outer diameter.

At the same time it is a pleasure to use the 1.4/50 Nikkor-S with this adaper on a Sony-E. And it was the perfect deal with Amedeo, who is a technical wizzard and a gentleman.

So for the time being the 1.8/35mm Nikkor-S, which is truely a historic lens, the first of this kind - ahead of Leica's famous 8-lens and the Canon LTM - got its dedicated Bessa R2S. (I know who could eventually repair my IIIg and I don't go deeper into Leica history. But Nikon rangefinder cameras are uncharted territory for me).

Amedeo's adapters (and his last name is Muscelli, not Mombelli... ;) ) have been working flawlessly in my experience and he is indeed a real gentleman. He also has a website: http://www.amedeo.muscelli.net/.

The rangefinder coupled adapters won't work properly for most lenses wider than 50mm, and the Contax and Nikkor-S version are indeed different. If you are happy to use LV, then there are a few non-RF coupled adapters (inlcuding Amedeo's) available for wider lenses.

AFAIC, I have bitten the bullet a few years ago and replaced my favourite S-mount Nikkor 35mm lenses (the f/1.8 and the tiny f/2.5) with copies in LTM.

Hope this helps.
