Just picked up my M Typ 262

Also an M8..., I'll have both in the next couple of days. Agonized long enough at my digital rangefinder options, but it came down to two cameras. M8 does decent b/w photography and IR work, so my Typ 262 will handle the color end (or b/w too). I wanted more traditional cameras (seemed odd to have live view/video on an M), and almost got the Monochrom- however, I wanted the advantage of the new shutter/cocking sound of the 262, and the sensor as well.

This is my first post in this forum, so I'll introduce myself. I am a pro photographer with over 30 years of photography experience (which includes my film days), and also have a full time career in a field completely unrelated to photography. I write camera reviews and articles on my gear blog as well.

Looking forward to the digital rangefinder experience and path of least resistance.

Thank you kindly! I've a bit of RF experience (film cameras, and previously loaned an M8.2) so I'm fortunate enough to have an idea of what I'm getting myself into a bit. :)

The recent purchases come off the heels of being reviewed for a local art gallery, so times are good!

Glad to be here and to read others' experiences and shared information.

Hi and welcome to the good old Forum.  From the point of view of someone who has both the M Monochrom and the M262 I think you have made the correct choice. I am unable to distinguish between 'pure' B&W from the MM and converted B&W from the M262, after PP of course.

This applies to both screen and prints up to A2. The MM of course is brilliant and desirable but not an absolute necessity. The M262 is incredibly nice to use, so good in fact that I mostly have to force myself to take anything else for an outing.

Hi There and Welcome Carl

Great decisions - personally I have an MM246 and an M240 - mostly I use the 240, but almost never Live view - I'd relish the reduction in weight and the quieter shutter of the 262, and I like the opportunity to convert to black and white using the channel mixer (especially for landscape work) - I guess you made the right choice!

All the best

I have to say the 262 is really awesome- what an impression it makes. I like them both so far, but the 262 is just fantastic. The attention to detail in how the controls operate and feel, the way the shutter/cocking mech cycle sounds, the build and feel... the grip material, is really nice. Having a hard time finding any imperfections in the design.

Love the image quality and the way Leica handle the Jpegs, especially in the detail and color area. I'd like to have the choice of turning off the noise reduction, but the way Leica handle it, is pretty darn good. :)

More soon, so far just trialing it and letting our personalities get to know one another.

Soon as I have a worthy image to post, I shall.

Carl
