dgktkr Posted April 2, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 2, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) About 2 months ago I was backpacking with my SL + 24-90 zoom when my feet slipped on a big granite boulder. I was carrying it on my shoulder and it fell off and bounced on the granite! I imagine the g forces on the camera and lens were quite high. The back, underside of the body sustained some dents, and the top, front of the lens metal had some chipped paint. The lens cap popped off and exhibited some minor scratches. Some images are attached: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! The first one shows the biggest dent, which was near the battery compartment. If you look closely, you might notice that the plastic bottom plate is bent slightly. The second one shows dents on another corner of the body and nearer to the centerline of the LCD screen. The third image shows the minor chipping of the paint on the lens and scratches on the lens cap I've taken a good number of pictures since this mishap and haven't seen any problems that it might have caused, even though I was on the lookout. Things like the level sensors in the body, and the autofocus and OIS actuators in the lens still work well. No cracked glass in the lens or decentering effects have shown up (after examining an image of a Siemens star target). And there seems to be no body deformation that affects battery insertion or removal. In addition, neither of the glass screens seem to have suffered any damage. I could image that if their mounting hadn't been designed properly, they could have cracked even though they didn't receive a blow directly. Even though I feel bad about letting this happen, I'm pleased that the camera and lens held up better than I would have expected. Well done Leica! dgktkr
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! ramarren Posted April 2, 2016 Share #2 Posted April 2, 2016 I'm glad that neither you nor the camera were hurt in any serious ways. Always a bummer to drop a camera...
adamdewilde Posted April 3, 2016 Share #3 Posted April 3, 2016 If you had an Otus lens on there... Well you would have been out the cost of an Otus lens. Glad everything is ok!
