toke Posted June 3, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I shot a concert the other night. 2 frames had this strange looking "line" in it. Anybody tried that? 5 seconds before these shots were made, somebody threw a beer all over me and camera...... I used the 15mm VC

Shootist Posted June 3, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 3, 2007 This is one of the flaws of the M8. when there is a bright light at the edge or just outside of the edge of the image you can, and will most of the time, get a green horizonal stripe in the image. I have had it happen to me.
toke Posted June 3, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted June 3, 2007 Hmmm. Not good! Strange. I shot 727 frames in concert light, and only 2 frames looked like this.... Hope it won't be more than that in the future! Anybody know why? Can it be fixed?
Shootist Posted June 3, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 3, 2007 Hmmm. Not good! Strange. I shot 727 frames in concert light, and only 2 frames looked like this.... Hope it won't be more than that in the future! Anybody know why? Can it be fixed? Yes I just told you why. When there is a bright light at the EDGE of the image/sensor it bleeds through the black boarder of the sensor and causes a green horizonal stripe. Point the camera at a bright light just at the edge of the image and take a shot. you will see the stripe. I could reproduce this on my M8 anytime I liked. toke Posted June 3, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted June 3, 2007 "Point the camera at a bright light just at the edge of the image and take a shot. you will see the stripe. I could reproduce this on my M8 anytime I liked" So is that a quality of the M8 then? :-) Just baffles me, that I shot 727 frames in same kind of lighting, and ONLY 2 frames has it! "it bleeds through the black boarder of the sensor and causes a green horizonal stripe" - if that is true, then it's a gigantic failure of the sensor!!!! ho_co Posted June 4, 2007 Share #7 Posted June 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Toke-- Leica is aware of the problem and working to eliminate it. See item #4 in http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/20079-official-response-leica-laundry-list.html#post212897. As you discovered, it is not easy to get light sources in exactly the right place to generate the problem, but at the moment it's a recognized issue. By the way--good pictures; sorry for the green stripe. Hope the other 725 were at least this good! --HC
toke Posted June 4, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted June 4, 2007 Hi HC Thanx, that's good news. I cropped the "problem" out... Just want to say, that apart from these 2 flawed files, the M8 is a joy to use for concert (and general) shooting.... I use it everyday for work. ho_co Posted June 4, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 4, 2007 Yes, it's a great camera. And it has a few quirks. This problem is reproducible but rare in occurence, so even if Leica doesn't get it fixed immediately, you'll still be getting mainly great shots like these. Good luck. Sorry for the discovery of one of the M8's warts... --HC
