TerenceYam Posted March 23, 2016 Share #1  Posted March 23, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just bought a Notilux v2 from a forum.  USD4,400 with hood and 95% new.  Have been eyeing on this lens for a few years... this price sounds like a good deal to me....  Tested it out on Sony A7 first, and was quite happy with it.  I tried it with slide film (Fuji Velvia) and negative B&W (Ilford PanF+ 50 << well... shooting F1.0 at day time can be challenging...)  Here is the result:  #1 NOCT-Mar2016-PanF50-019_s by Terence Yam, on Flickr  #2 NOCT-Mar2016-PanF50-025_s by Terence Yam, on Flickr  #3 NOCT-Mar2016-PanF50-038_s by Terence Yam, on Flickr  #4 NOCT-Mar2016-PanF50-040_s by Terence Yam, on Flickr  #5 NOCT-Mar2016-PanF50-031_s by Terence Yam, on Flickr  #6 [ /url]NOCT-Mar2016-PanF50-046_s by Terence Yam, on Flickr

FrozenInTime Posted March 23, 2016 Share #2  Posted March 23, 2016 Look like money well spent  Even with 1/4000s on digital M a ND8/0.9 3 stop filter is a minimum. For film a ND64/1.8 6 stop filter will work better in full on sunlight @f/

NB23 Posted March 23, 2016 Share #4 Â Posted March 23, 2016 Try not to make your pictures a blurry mess at all cost. FORCED Blurry backgrounds in broad daylight really doesn't look natural. Â Closing the Noctilux at f5.6 is perfectly feasible and, many times, looks even better than f1.0.
Herr Barnack Posted March 26, 2016 Share #5  Posted March 26, 2016 You are spotted on!  How come I didn't think about ND filter! I should get one! Just not sure if they have 60mm size... B&H photo in New York has both -3 and -6 stop ND filters in 60mm size:  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/752856-REG/B_W_1066143_60mm_103_Solid_Neutral.html http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/752899-REG/B_W_1066155_60mm_106_Neutral_Density.html  They also have a -10 stop ND, if -6 is not enough. I have both the above for my f/1.0 Noctilux and have never needed anything darker than the -6 stop. The -3 stop is the most useful of the two; the -6 does not see much use at all.  NB23 offers some good advice (above) about using the Noctilux.
