michi_rishi Posted March 15, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 15, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there, I am all new here after I bought a Q last week. Given the money involved, that was quite a decision to make for me! But I don't regret it. I have owned several (used) Leica's before just to play with (D-lux, Digilux 2, X1, X2). For personal documentary's I resorted to several Canon DSLR's (like 7D and 5D2, 5D3). I always prefered shooting with prime lenses like 24mm and 35mm. The Q is almost as fast and versatile as my much appreciated Canon 5Dmk3. But Q is much more easy to carry and fun to use. And less confronting to people on the road. It really feels like a finely crafted photographic tool. This baby is soo nice to work with. I love the 28mm and manual focus. I have to say that this is the best camera I have ever purchased! I shoot JPG's most of the time (I know I should not, guess it's lazyness). But even JPG's have very good dynamic range. See this picture I took last weekend. It's among the first photo's I shot on my Q. It was a very cold and foggy day on a mountain. I wore handgloves and still managed to use manual focus (although it's not tack-sharp). But what surprised me is the dynamic range! The white snow (head high, on the left of the person, shows some detail of the track into infinity. The black of her coat is in such detail that (at least on my iPad and computerscreen) I can even discern the smooth outside with the fleece like inside of the collar. I can really appreciate such details. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Something else: against my expectations, I do like the 35mm crop! (To me...) Q is a very capable camera at 35mm. Seeing what's coming into the frame while watching through the viewfinder is amazing! And when necessary, there's the extra wide angle to go with just a touch of a button. Autofocus is almost as good as on 5D3. I love how the camera renders color and texture. For the coming months, I am looking forward to learn a lot of the knowledge available among you here. If I feel like I can make a contribution, I will not hesitate.
