dkCambridgeshire Posted March 5, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 5, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone attempted to mount a Quantum Q flash immediately ABOVE a Leica SL and if so which flash bracket are you using? Photo shows my SL and Quantum flash used with a Stroboframe PRO-T bracket. The 'ergonomics' when using my left hand under the combination to zoom the lens needs improving. I'm not bothered about the weight as long as I can use the zoom smoothly from underneath with my left hand - whilst gripping the camera /flash bracket with my right hand. The Quantum battery pack is hung on my shoulder . The zoom and the shutter release are the only controls I need to use. I'm using the Quantum flash in Auto mode i.e. the strobe's sensor controls the flash exposure. Welcome, dear visitor! There are possible alternative flash brackets but so far cannot trace any videos or photos showing use with a Leica SL. Is anyone else using a similar large portable studio type flash above the camera (as distinct from side mounted) - and if so which bracket are you using? thighslapper Posted March 6, 2016 Share #2 Posted March 6, 2016 My promedia gear boomerang works fine .... in fact it is a better fit than on the M ...... and has the advantage that it articulates easily into portrait mode...... I use this with the quantum as well and makes the whole set up surprisingly handy and not overly heavy

I use this with the quantum as well and makes the whole set up surprisingly handy and not overly heavy Thank you … I've seen a video featuring the ProMedia Boomerang used with an M - and it worked fine. Need to check prices and UK distributor. Do you have a photo showing your SL with Quantum flash supported on the Boomerang? dunk EDIT: … I have seen a secondhand BBX Boomerang listed - Is yours a BBX i.e. the non-grip model? dkCambridgeshire Posted March 6, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted March 6, 2016 Thank you Dirk and Thighslapper I have just ordered a s/h BBX from USA … condition 9/10 complete with universal plate … saves a few ££ on the UK new price even after prepaying the import duty. It should fit the SL OK. dunk
DirkR440 Posted March 6, 2016 Share #6 Posted March 6, 2016 mine is the BBS, not sure if this one is still available. I don't know if it fits on the SL.
thighslapper Posted March 6, 2016 Share #7 Posted March 6, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ditto ....... but the BBX looks very similar apart from the fact it now has a height adjustment at the front, can fold up more compactly and has an integral fold out stand instead of the old metal rod you inserted. In some ways looks better ......... but the plate fixing screw on the back is even bigger than before .... I found this a nuisance so whittled mine down (after removing all the plastic) to dome head screw size and cut a coin sized slot ....... I suspect it will never have the plate changed anyway .... If you like well engineered precision gear then this will not disappoint you.
DirkR440 Posted March 6, 2016 Share #8 Posted March 6, 2016 I also removed the screw on mine. It was just too big!
