Leica M9-P * Leica Elmarit 2.8/28 Asph * LR 6.8 * NiK SEP2

Leider ist dieser Letzte ein Stilbruch mit die Anderen die so 50-er Jahren nett waren. Kann aber hier nicht so sein weil man in den 50-er Jahren der Himmel nie durchzeichnet bekam :)

My project on the de-industrialisation of my hometown - Bradford, West Yorkshire UK.

Once the "Wool Capital" of the world but now the wool trade is long gone and the derelict mills are abandoned and decaying.

I have been documenting this decline for a few years now. I originally did it all in colour but now I am shooting a lot of it in B&W because it matches my mood and  how I feel about how my city has just been left to it's fate and ultimate terminal decline.

These picture were taken with LeicaM8.2, Leica M9P, Leica M240, Leica M262   with 21mm SEM, 28mm Elmarit, 50mm Summicron, 75mm Summicron, 90mm APO Summicron and Apo Telyt 135mm lenses.

All are recent with some taken this morning as Sunday is always a good day to be out and about when standing in the road etc.

I start and end this selection with the scourge of my city - heroin. EVERY derelict space is used as a drug den and I have to be VERY careful where I place my feet for fear of standing on a needle - I am sorry if this offends but I am angry about how this has all happened. From a thriving hub of the wool trade to dereliction and drug abuse - the Victorian wool barons who built these warehouses could never have imagined that they would end up this way.

The picture of the Conditioning House is particularly sad to me as this was once the JEWEL IN THE CROWN of Bradford Council and the City coat of arms is still proudly displayed above the building. The "Con House" as it was always known was a council run facility where wool imported from all over the world was tested for quality and type.

It all so sad but I am recording it all because one day it will all be gone and just a memory of what we once were.

Wow! This one definitely has an apocalyptic feel.

More from my project on religion.

Studying The Koran at a Madrassah in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK.

Leica M6 with 50mm Summicron and 28mm Elmarit on Agfa 400 film pushed to ISO 800 and developed in Rodinal/R09

Durham Miners Gala, Old Elvet, Durham, UK.

The Durham Miners Gala is held in Durham once the heart of the Durham Coal Field - many pits in this area extended out under the sea.

The gala takes place in July of every year and the old colliery bands followed by the pits banner process down Old Elvet from the top of the town and play for the dignitaries on the balcony of the County Hotel at the foot of the hill.

At one time it would have been unthinkable for a Labour leader and most of the cabinet not to attend the gala it was the most important gathering in the working class calendar.

These pictures were taken on a pair of Leica M6 cameras with 90mm and 35mm Summicron lenses - film was Kodak TRI-X developed in D76 1

Paul, what an incredible body of work. The portraits in particular are quite striking.

It's a bit hard to do them justice to comply with the size restraints of the forum but I'm sure that you all get the gist of them.

Apologies for the © notices but these are "live" pictures and I don't want to have them taken for commercial gain - although I have no problem with anyone who wants to download for their own use.

I did do the feature also in colour using Nikon Digital cameras but I think that other than they are not Leica, colour could be a bit strong to share here.

Thanks for looking.

Excellent work, Paul - Thank you.
