Astropap Posted February 17, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 17, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just curious as to which settings other X Vario owners are using, especially as to image stabilization and JPEG settings such as Fine or Superfine and sharpening. While I tend to rely mostly on RAW files, I expect that I'll want to use the JPEG B&W pretty often so I'd appreciate some input as to which settings you feel produce the sharpest JPEGs. I did some comparison testing on different focus settings and sharpness settings but haven't reached any definite conclusions, although the 1-point autofocus and manual with assist seem to produce the best focusing results for me. gbealnz Posted February 17, 2016 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2016 Unless I am shooting something real serious, I tend to just shoot SuperFine. Either no sharpening, or if sometimes, just a touch. I figure I can sharpen them a slight amount after the event if not happy, but they seem good enough as is. Never use the image stabilization, I actually consider it a joke to be honest, but that's just me. Gary
Astropap Posted February 17, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted February 17, 2016 Thanks for responding. I really didn't see much difference between the Fine vs SuperFine although I know there's a big difference in file size. I also could see artifacts from using the high and medium high sharpness settings as compared to RAW. Amy
wda Posted February 17, 2016 Share #4 Posted February 17, 2016 I use the lowest resolution Jpeg setting only because I cannot set DNG only. But it does allow me to set Mono for my Mono User Preset and get an idea of the potential of the subject to make a good monochrome picture. All jpeg settings I leave at their default. When capturing Raw files, Jpeg settings are irrelevant. Any of the focus modes can be mastered to give the results you seek. One zone suits me well.
