Or is there an "a la carte version possible already?"

jmourilyan Posted February 11, 2016 Share #3 Posted February 11, 2016 Leica haven't extended Al a Carte to cover the typ 246. I regularly check because I am waiting for them to release a chrome monochrom 246. Hopefully they will.

jmourilyan Posted February 11, 2016 Share #5 Posted February 11, 2016 I asked Leica this morning whether they would be prepared to make a chrome Leica MM 246 as a special/one-off. This is the response I got back: "Dear Mr. Mourilyan, i like to answer your question.at the moment no chrome version is planned." So I am guessing they're not going to make me one, or release one soon :-(
mmx_2 Posted February 11, 2016 Share #6 Posted February 11, 2016 Pity:(, would have been nice. Maybe we should make a poll and when we have enough people prepared to buy one, we can ask Leica to make us a "special version" in regular chrome;)
Joshua Lowe Posted February 12, 2016 Share #7 Posted February 12, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sort of ridiculous since they already made a chrome 246, the Historica. The a la carte program isn't very satisfactory. No engraving on black paint analog MP bodies. Yes engraving on black paint Typ 240 bodies. No a la carte for the M246 even though it's an virtually identical to the M-P. No M-A a la carte at all. It's scattershot and inconsistent.

This http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/Leica/Leica-M6/LEICAM6_GoldSultanBrunei/index1.htm is okay, but an M Monochrome in anything other than black on black is forbidden? Madness, sheer madness!!
wattsy Posted March 3, 2016 Share #9 Posted March 3, 2016 So I am guessing they're not going to make me one, or release one soon :-( That makes no sense - if you are willing to pay extra money to have your M camera personalized, why would they not allow it?? In my experience of asking for anything outside the official products and options is that you will get a polite "no" until or unless you are able to contact the right person. Polite persistence can pay off but there is no doubt that Leica CS are much less willing to accommodate special requests than they were a few years ago. I am told that the reluctance is at least partly to do with a lack of flexibility in Leica's SAP based ordering system. As far as a silver Monochrom 246 goes, Leica have some history here. When the original Monochrom was released, at least three members of this forum managed to order the camera in silver chrome (I think Leica used the top and bottom plates from the silver M9-P). However, I have been told by a Leica employee that the powers that be quickly decided to stop accepting that particular request. Of course, the willingness to accept such orders may well hang on marketing considerations as much as anything else and Leica are likely to have plans to release a silver chrome 246 at some point in the near future (just as they did with the previous Monochrom). Joshua Lowe Posted March 3, 2016 Share #11 Posted March 3, 2016 I've noticed with German companies there seems to be a varying level of willingness to "build to order" based on A) who you are and B ) where you are. For example, I've seen Porsche and BMW reject some fairly innocuous BTO requests from American customers because they're not established clients. And in many US states you can walk away from such an order without sacrificing your deposit - I think that makes them nervous. Even if you can prove you're able/willing to pay a premium, they refuse. On the other hand, I witnessed BMW bending themselves over backwards to accommodate a highly customized BTO car for an established client from Asia. It reached the point where there were executives emailing him updates and photos of his car as it went through each stage of assembly. Sometimes it's more than just "money talks", I suppose. Herr Barnack Posted April 16, 2016 Share #12 Posted April 16, 2016 http://www.leica-sto...5-2015-set.html This is a beautiful camera! The choice of the accompanying lens is curious. A 90/2 APO? Really? No matter, though. A price of $15,177 USD/€ 13.400 for the set puts it out of reach for me. With only 40 sets being made, the price of admission was bound to be steep.
