Exposure problem in auto mode

LEICA Q.

Can't find the solution to a problem. Shooting with exposure on auto and aperture non automatic, the camera, instead of changing aperture, changes the ISO. Thus I have no control over depth of field.  HAVE I GONE IMBECILE AFTER DECADES OF USING LEICAS?

If you have the aperture set, why would it change the aperture?

It will only change the shutter speed (if set at A) and if on auto ISO it will change that too unless you specify a speed.

Sounds like you are currently using the camera in Automatic A, or aperture priority mode, where the camera chooses the shutter speed, and you choose the aperture. So, for any given aperture you chose, the camera will either increase or decrease the shutter speed. In this mode, you are in control of your DOF. The wrinkle to this is, if you have the camera set to aperture priority as described, and you also have Auto ISO turned on with a minimum shutter speed defined, then as you close down the aperture (to higher number) let's say for more DOF, once the shutter speed the camera selects reaches the slowest shutter speed defined in the auto ISO setting, it will increase the ISO number automatically, up to the highest ISO you (or the camera's default) specified in the Auto ISO settings. If you want the camera to specify both the shutter speed and aperture, then you need to turn the aperture ring to the "A" setting (it's red in color) and leave the shutter speed dial on "A" (also red). If you want to specify the shutter speed and let the camera determine the aperture, then set the shutter speed dial to a speed number, and leave the aperture ring on the camera on "A."
