Thanks for the information on the expanding tool. I will look for one as I have about three lenses with the same type of damage. the "lightly tapped with a hammer" method would be for braver souls than I.

 

having such a tool would be a big savings. All of my lenses with damaged filter rings- the new 50 1.2 included- were purchased for about 50% of what that type of lens normally go for. All have had excellent glass.
