Phil Harris Posted December 11, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would love to have a chat with the person who designed the ERC that Leica sell for £175. I could explain how frustrating it is that you have to remove the lens hood every time you want to close the case. The hood itself is great, doesn't add too much to the depth of the camera and protects the lens well. With the ERC you are required to carry the hood in your pocket if you want to use it, then screw the bloody thing on and off all the time. For the sake of extending the front of the case a few millimeters it could have been almost ideal: Except.... I would then go on to describe my annoyance that they didn't design the front part of the case to be detachable. It wouldn't have taken much but I suspect they were concerned it might detract from sales of the cheaper half case. Fortunately I managed to get one from Ebay for £75, I had intended removing the front piece and devising some attachment device to allow it to be used either with or without. Now I discover that the bloody hood has to come off every time, I might just slice the front off permanently. Good design is pretty much compulsory at the price they sell this case for, in this I believe they have failed miserably. Love the camera though. prk60091 Posted December 11, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2015 S/he is probably the same person who designed the lens cap.
biglouis Posted December 12, 2015 Share #3 Posted December 12, 2015 When I owned a M8 I bought the neoprene soft case that Leica introduced for it. Later as I added bodies I bought a cheap Hong Kong knock off from ebay which was just as good. I'm currently using that with the Q and it is more than roomy enough for the lens hood. I also use an Optech Soft hood over the lens hood which works very well indeed just for added protection. LouisB
