barjohn Posted May 30, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I asked this question on the digital thread but no responses. Maybe someone here can help. When using C1 for the Mac and adjusting an M8 file with adjustments for sharpness or noise reduction or changing profiles, how do you make it so that the changes appear in the main preview window? In LR it works fine but in C1 the only way I can see the change is to save the file with the changes to a tiff and then veiw the tiff in the Mac's preview program. This makes C1 nearly worthless if I can't see the changes before I am ready to make my tiff. Whitebalance does effect the preview image.
Advertisement Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Hi barjohn, Take a look here C1 on Mac Question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
David Wogan Posted May 30, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 30, 2007 Are you talking about C1 Pro or LE? In Pro, you can assign a different profile to each image in the Process Tool window, in LE you can't - you can only change the single global profile. To see the effect of the new profile in LE, you have to select another image in the right-hand thumbnail list and then re-select the required image. barjohn Posted May 30, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted May 30, 2007 I was speaking of C1 LE. I guess it is crippled from the Pro version. Makes me tend to stick with LR as it doesn't exhibit this strange behavior nor have such a poor user interface.
blado Posted May 30, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 30, 2007 The only way to see noise reduction and sharpness changes live is with the focus tool; changes appear in so-called focus utility window which can be detached and resized (and the eye-dropper tool (?) changes focus in the window). This is just a performance issue. To see a colour profile change, you must select the new profile in preferences and re-select the image (like, select another image and then return to the one you're working on). This is all in LE. At least that's how I do it!
huwge Posted May 30, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 30, 2007 I tend to favour CS3 and Noise Ninja for noise (if necessary) and Nik Sharpener for sharpening. You can view the area to be sharpened in C1 by opening the focus panel separately, but I prefer the other tools. I do favour C1 for the colour management aspects of processing DNG files. barjohn Posted May 30, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted May 30, 2007 I hope the next version of C1, if it ever appears, is better than this.
Jamie Roberts Posted May 30, 2007 Share #7 Posted May 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) John, It's not really that bad. You are seeing an approximation in the main C1 window. The Focus tab, though, will show you exactly what the RAW file is doing. On Windows (and I'm sure on the Mac, too), you can make this very big, but it's (obviously) a little slower, so it's a great trade-off between speed of processing and exact information, IMO. The next version of C1, from what little I've seen, looks very promising. But I have to say I'm really impressed with the speed increase of the last point release, too!
