28mm Lens on .85x MP

Lieber David,

I don't wear glasses and would have to say 'no', contrary to popular belief.;)

I just performed the following test: camera (M7 0.85) on tripod, 28mm Leica finder mounted in the accessory shoe.....

I had to move my eye from side to side of the camera's finder occular, to see the absolute edges of the viewfinder - the camera's finder barely reached the view of the accessory 28mm finder. When I was able to see one side of the frame, I could not see the other. It was very inaccurate and would be even more so with the camera handheld.

My vote goes to an accessory finder - even though it adds a little bulk to the camera, your viewing will be more precise. Check out the Cameraquest site - the Voigtländer finders are great and very inexpensive.

Best,

Jan

Jan,

Are you left- or right-eyed?

Bill

Bil,

I am ambidextrous...... Can use either eye, to get the widest view out of the finder I find the right eye better as my nose can sit on the side of the camera instead of being pressed against it and my eyeball is right up to the eyepiece.

When I use my right eye I also avoid having the accessory finder dig into my forehead, as would happen when focusing with my left eye. Using my left eye however, has the advantage of not having to squint the other eye closed. The 'unused' eye is blocked by the camera and can be kept open.

There you have it - I did not have these left- or right eye problems when I used a Linhof Super Technika.......:D

Best,

Jan

The only 28mm lens I have is on my Tri-Elmar. I wear glasses, and use an external VF when using that focal length on my M7 0.85. I doubt the use of the of the 'whole VF' as opposed to an external VF, while perhaps possible, would be practical.
