Leica Fanatic Posted December 21, 2015 Share #21 Posted December 21, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) and makes sense with the introduction of the M 262. My, I am out of touch. Had to look that one up . . .
Advertisement Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Hi Leica Fanatic, Take a look here M-E disappeared from Leica's website. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
darylgo Posted December 21, 2015 Share #22 Posted December 21, 2015 I'm very happy with M9P & a nearly unsued M-E (with new sensor) for backup. 6 years? I intend to use these hard until they die a noble death. Have no idea when that will be, but it will be a sad day, hopefully a long time from now. +1 Despite the M240 (and iterations) the M9 is imho very near state of the art IQ. Spec wise it's showing it's age but those who use it know the specs can lie.

ShivaYash Posted December 22, 2015 Share #24 Posted December 22, 2015 The end of a classic, I love shooting my M9, so small and nimble, great for carrying all day. How many digital cameras can claim a run of 6 years? The M8? ;-)
wattsy Posted December 22, 2015 Share #25 Posted December 22, 2015 The M8? ;-) The M8 was replaced by the M8.2 after about 2 years and then discontinued after the M9 was introduced in 2009 (just under 3 years from the first M8 shipments). That said I think you could argue that the M9 was essentially an M8.3 so this class of product (the M-E being the most recent iteration) was part of the Leica catalogue for 9 years. The plain vanilla M8 is still a perfectly good camera for anyone more interested in photographs than specifications.

And it (the M8) is Leica's third best solution for digital black and white with M lenses, right behind the two Monochrom models and well ahead of the M9 and M240. My M8 is a great camera and one that I still use, albeit not much since getting the M-E. I did flirt with the idea of selling it but this didn't last very long thanks to those wise folks on this forum.
microview Posted December 23, 2015 Share #28 Posted December 23, 2015 Isn't plain vanilla a tautology? Not really: apart from the fact that the expression has drifted into common usage to distinguish something from deluxe/souped-up/etc alternatives, it might even be a specific to someone buying, say, from an ice-cream vendor who is offering added flaky chocolate sticks as an option – so then it would not be 'plain vanilla'! There you are: serious answer to most likely a not too serious query .
