a mastershot, your Image. It sums up the importance of this musician and stands for the general ambivalent position of a soloist and a tutti player in an orchestra. There for your "choice" of f-stop is just right to let the orchestra sink into the blurr.

So glad it worked for you Iduna. I say so because it's somehow an adventurous composition.

Thinking now about the f2.8, I think I took the right choice as it helps the cello pops, otherwise it eying have been dissolved with the church architecture.

yes, I had a similar experience yesterday in a church concert with horrible light condition. Limelight spots on the musisicans and very low light above the audience. I used 2.0 and even here the DOF was amazing on FF but at the cost of a high ISO. You managed perfectly well to separate focus and backdrop.
