Just wanted to post a note to say that I finally took the plunge and bought a licence to Vuescan the other day and am totally blowen away with the program. From using the Canon software that was shipped with my FS4000US I got totally useless, aweful results scanning negs and slide scans were barely ok. Using Vuescan All my troubles are gone and I'm getting files that totally blow by mind. I never thought negs could look so good!

I have no relation with whoever makes Vuescan but if you're not using it I suggest you try it out. It'll give you another reason to regret buying that M8...

I would love to but can't get Vuescan to work on my Windows Vista computer. This is the primary reason I bought the Nikon Coolscan V ED yesterday, thinking that although Nikon View supposedly will not work with Vista, I can always get Vuescan.

Unfortunately, Vuescan hangs up on my Vista machne; I sent out an email to hamrick to see what is going on. Very frustrating.

In desperation, I tried Nikon Scan anyways, thinking it will not work with Vista per Internet info. I was pleasantly suprised that Nikon Scan actually works wonderfully with my Vista machine! :D I have already scanned several old negatives. The scans seem to be a touch saturated for my taste, so I still want to try Vuescan.

Now, if could just find that post about the Coolscan setup and scanning for newbies somewhere on this forum.

While I don't use Vista (Mac OSX is my drug of choice), I too had problems with Vuescan. However, Ed Hamrick was very responsive and was able to help me "work out the kinks." Given the high profile of Vista I suspect that Ed will work hard in getting a fix to the problem. Hang in there; it's a great program.

After having tried all possible options to get a good neg-scan with my Nikonscan 9000 and vuescan, I finally gave up. All my Negs (no matter what options I chose) had terribly noisy shadows and so-so color rendition. With Nikonscan, everything works just perfect!

Well, I exchanged some emails with Hamrick regarding my problem and I may have to format my request for customer support as specifically indicated in the Vuescan website. This makes sense as they probably get lots of emails.

But since Nikon Scan works well enough for me, I am giving up on Vuescan.
