erlingmm Posted November 16, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 16, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) On the new S007 the shutter wheel not only adjusts the shutter, but has become a general, albeit context sensitive navigation tool. In Play and auto-review mode, the shutter wheel and the rear wheel functions as zoom/navigation tools in picture review. My mode of shooting, that I got used to on the S006, is usually manual mode with AF on the back button/joystick, I then set the aperture, and I often take several shots varying shutter speed slightly. Sometimes I do the opposite, hold shutter speed, but vary aperture by turning the rear wheel. BUT, when I set auto-review to say, 3 seconds, for this period after a shot, the shutter wheel zooms in the playback window, it does NOT change shutter, and similar for the rear wheel. When I still hold my eye to the finder, I don't see this. I know that I can lightly press the shutter to get the system back to camera mode, but sometimes I press too hard, and another 3 seconds pass until these functions are the way I am used to. I of course understand that other people may have other shooting modes, but I would still like to be able to shoot in "006 mode". This would require a menu setting that reserves the shutter wheel and rear wheel to shutter/aperture UNTIL I press Play, EVEN if I have set auto review. Te joystick might be used for navigation in this mode. I talked to an S specialist in Leica who said he would raise the possibility of a new menu setting with the S team, but of course could not guarantee any change. Other views/experiences? Advertisement Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Hi erlingmm, Take a look here S007 User Interface . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest chipcarterdc Posted November 17, 2015 Share #2 Posted November 17, 2015 Agreed. The change to the shutter speed dial is the bigger adjustment, and my only real complaint, in the user interface of the 007 versus the 006.
albireo_double Posted November 17, 2015 Share #3 Posted November 17, 2015 Agreed, and I'd like the joystick to be reserved for shooting (AF) until I press play. My single biggest issue so far has been trying to refocus with the camera to my face and nothing happening, because the autoreview is on and the joystick is doing something else. Half press the shutter button to get into the "shooting mode" again ... and half the time the moment is gone.
fahrenhyde Posted November 17, 2015 Share #4 Posted November 17, 2015 so you dont need auto-review. turn it off?
erlingmm Posted November 17, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted November 17, 2015 I like to have auto review, but I don't look at it after every shot, and if I do it is usually at a glance. I have no problem pressing Play if I want to zoom/navigate.
fahrenhyde Posted November 17, 2015 Share #6 Posted November 17, 2015 honestly, and i know its a different way of working, it s exactly what i love about the 007, that you can, as with the 240, zoom directly, and not have to press another button first (as in the 006 and other systems). they have changed just about all the things that bothered me about the 006. though i understand you wanting an additional menu setting for your needs. Fully respect that, I just want the choice. It is hard to change the habits of old dogs ;-)
albireo_double Posted November 17, 2015 Share #8 Posted November 17, 2015 so you dont need auto-review. turn it off? It's not a big deal but I have been using an S2 for the past four years and the rear button there does nothing during autoreview and so is immediately autofocusing when pressed (if set up that way), no matter what "mode" the S2 is in. When I started using the S007, its behaviour was initially confusing for me (just like with the S2, I have the camera in MF with the rear joystick set up to do AF-ON) until I was told by the Leica sales rep to switch autoreview off. Just like Erlingmm, though, I would ideally like to have auto review available to check my exposures and focus quickly. In short, the "dual nature" of the joystick on the 007 does not seem as an ideal solution to me...
erlingmm Posted November 17, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted November 17, 2015 In general for user interfaces, making physical buttons context-sensitive can be very confusing. I hope Leica can solve this and give us the choice of a "006 mode", for lack of a better term.
Guest chipcarterdc Posted November 17, 2015 Share #10 Posted November 17, 2015 I never use auto review, so that's not my concern. Rather, I just find having an actual dedicated shutter speed dial more useful for the way I shoot than having that dial for image zoom.

I think you just solved something that has happened to me I could not explain.
mjrp Posted November 17, 2015 Share #12 Posted November 17, 2015 I have switched image review off on the 007, it seems much easier to press a button should I want to review a shot than wait for the buttons to return to their shooting modes, for me it's a non issues once I understood what I wanted the camera to prioritise. The 006 is still nice to use with a proper shutter speed dial but it's just second nature now and I don't think about it with the 007. Mat
