One heads up though, the tax free only applies outside of Scandinavia (so unfortunately swedes, danes and finnish people cannot get the tax back) for the rest of you only click in:

Include Global Blue Tax Free form:

And the price will be 20% less! Quite a bargain!

No. Scandinavia + Finland do not have a VAT union. However, most shops in Norway do not want to do the paperwork for export. There is little experience with export here since we have been a high cost country for the last 30 years. In a couple of years we will be like everybody else, and that is good.

Much stranger to me is that - on the same site - M-P silver costs NKK 68990,-  and M-P black is listed for NKK 54999,- ?!?! M-P for under 6000 €?  And it is not bundled to any lens.

A huge difference = € 1500,-  compared to silver model???

Normally they cost the same...

I am not 100 % certain, but it seems that only items in stock are heavily discounted. Probably they need to offload non selling Inventory. This retailer did the same some time back when I think Samsung products were not selling and they cleared all inventory and stopped selling the brand.

An economist! And you haven't noticed we are in the run up to Christmas and the rest of the retail world is discounting and having sales?

It is staggering to take what is a regular discount cycle on bodies and lenses and equate it to 'trouble'.

Steve

This has of course nothing to do with a regular discount cycle. I checked with an employee and Leica M items are at present glued to the shelves it seems and cameras and lenses do not sell at all. A probable future is that this company, the largest distributor in Scandinavia, will sell Leica M by special order only. It should be obvious to most people that this is trouble. If the distributors know something I don`t know about a possible replacement there is a motivation to dump Inventory of course. I don`t know how profitable the M range is, and possibly the development budget will be spent in other market segments. Time will tell.

I went on the site you posted and compared lenses and cameras to prices here in the US and they are all higher in your Norway site.  I see no evidence of discounting here or evidence that the sky is falling.

The Summilux-M 50mm ASPH for example is offered for NOK 23 999 including tax. The tax free price is NOK 23 999/1.25 = 19 199. Yesterdays exchange rate was 8.72. USD price is therefore 19 199/8.72 = 2 202. I have not checked but I thought US retailers charged around USD 3500 for that lens. Interestingly, 5 local stores belonging to this retailer chain has this lens in stock in various cities in Norway, but how many lenses each have in stock is not listed, they only say it is in stock. I checked just for fun and nothing much has changed over the last week, but obviously if they have multiple items there may be sales than I can`t see.

Can someone tell me how to get the tax free price on an order?  I can't see an option to click to get the MOMS removed from the order price.

Thanks!

I would suggest that you just open a chat or something. I can`t see that this should be a problem if you explain what you want to do and they should be able to send an export invoice. If it does not work out let me know and I can call them. One of their stores is just 1 minute walk from where I live.

Nordvik: you are actually wrong. There is such an agreement:http://www.visitnorway.com/se/aktiviteter/shopping-i-norge/handla-skattefritt-i-norge/

I also tried on the shop site, but in the last step (very you apply for the tax return) it very clearly says that people from Sweden, Finland and Denmark are not entitled to get the moms back.

That is only for Tax Free Shops.

They probably cleared some stock. Both the Summilux 50 and 35 ASPH are back to their normal price. The Noctilux too.

The M240's, M-E, and some Summarits are still heavily discounted: http://www.japanphoto.no/leica-m-november?errorViewName=AjaxOrderItemDisplayView

Now I can finally try to sell my 35 FLE at a normal 2nd hand price again.

Actually it was quite clear on that page:

I even tried to "buy" an M240 from the japanphoto page and is says:

If you are a tourist in Norway and a resident outside Norway, Sweden, Denmark or Finland you can choose to to shop Tax Free with Global Blue. We will then add a form from Global Blue to your shipment. The item(s) must have a minimum total value of NOK 315,00. We also offer this service in our stores. • 2 weeks later...

In Norway, some dealers, including the official importer, are as of this morning selling Leica M bodies and lenses with heavy discounts. For example, the Summilux-M 50mm is on offer with 33 % discount or about 2 600€ including 25 % tax, about 1 000€ below German price. Some lenses are discounted even more (up to 40 %). Also the M-P is heavily discounted, so if you bought one last week you have lost about 1 500€.

Any idea what is going on? Has anyone seen the similar massive price cut in other markets?

Euro/USD has dropped from 1.4 to 1.06 from May of 2014.  Leica is making a lot more in the US even with 12% discount.

Huge discount will continue as Euro falls.
