I've searched the forum but haven't found an answer.  It looks to me like two lenses have identical elements, but the barrel is different to accommodate the different formats.  I've checked the technical brochures for both, including the mtf curves.  I don't see any difference and I'm wondering if anyone has any opinion regarding any differences between the two.  Thanks for your input.

My understanding has always been that the optical cell of the two lenses is identical, so that performance should be the same. It's therefore down to how you want to use the lens. If you wish to use it only on the M240, then clearly the M version is the way to go, since it avoids an R adapter, and the additional bulk and weight of the R lens. If (like me) you've already got the R variant, and an adapter, or if you wish also to use the lens also on R cameras, then the choice seems equally clear. (Although in the second case, If you're very rich, you could always have both!)
