Leica SL sensor

I guess all that crop talk supposed to derail the conversation about the terrible sensor quality in the new SL, right?

LOL!

I doubt the sensor is as bad as that DPR JPEG report seems to suggest at first look. I think it's a poor test, overall, like most of the DPReview tests have been.

Downloading these and several other SL sample raw files, with exposures made at ISO 50 to ISO 12500, the sensor quality seems right in line with my Nikon D750 until you hit the highest sensitivity settings. And then again, most of the raw samples I've found are actually crappy shots and poorly exposed anyway.

I'll do my own evaluation of the SL when my camera arrives. I have both the M-P and the D750 to compare it to. AND I'll be able to compare all three with the same Nikkor lens, since I have mount adapters that allows me to share my Nikon lenses on all three bodies. :-)

Frankly I don't quite understand the rationale by reviewers like DP review to compare JPEG quality OOC. After all JPEGs are processed images and may not always truly reflect the actual sensor in use. Correct me if I am wrong in this.

You may or may not be wrong, but they do supply raw images as well. Hence, if a sensor  benchmark is what you're looking for, you can do that. If, on the other hand, you're interested in the "integrated" JPEG output, you can have that as well.

you can choose what you want to compare...raw or jpeg, iso, which camera(s)......and the samples are raw downloads.....

i wish people would download and see for themselves.....
