BerndReini Posted November 23, 2015 Share #81 Posted November 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I did briefly go down the digital tilt/shift road before with a Hartblei Super-Rotator an my Contax 645 system, but I returned it before it was too late. It just showed too much barrel distortion and the coverage is limiting compared to e.g. a 120mm on 4x5. I don't do product shots but mostly architecture in landscapes. A friend of mine has the Canon TS lenses, which are supposed to be very good, so I could see myself getting the SL in the future. It just seems that coverage for TS lenses with the S-system would be very limited.

It works fine, but aperture needs to be set on a Canon before mounting on the Leica (no aperture ring on EF lenses).
platypus Posted November 23, 2015 Share #83 Posted November 23, 2015 .......the discipline instilled using large format has remained even using digital Ms....I highly recommend it for any photographer...for discipline and learning to see, not just for IQ. Jeff Seeing really is the distinction, the drill and the discipline, seeing is what it's all about....any camera may be employed creatively by a seeing eye and creative mind, even a shoe box with a pin hole in it. BerndReini Posted November 24, 2015 Share #84 Posted November 24, 2015 aperture needs to be set on a Canon before mounting on the Leica Oh yeah, forgot about that. That's how much thought I have given this. 4x5 it is. Btw. I shoot color negative, have a lab develop the sheets, and scan them with an Epson V750. Works well enough. I am tempted by 8x10 every now and then because it is just another level of rich, but the expense and hassle keep me from pursuing it.
Jeff S Posted November 24, 2015 Share #85 Posted November 24, 2015 Leica does have a 120 T/S APO lens for the S....not clear if other, wider T/S lenses are planned. Jeff
Manolo Laguillo Posted November 24, 2015 Share #86 Posted November 24, 2015 Leica does have a 120 T/S APO lens for the S....not clear if other, wider T/S lenses are planned. Jeff I suspect they are not going to develop a wide angle shift lens for the S. When the thing with my Vario-Elmar S 30-90 happened, I asked about such a lens. Answer was: "it would cost such an amount of money that it is 'unmachbar' (unfeasible)"... But I still think that it would be possible to construct a 35 mm shift lens for the S... I don't want a 30 mm (ok, if it would be there, I would buy it, of course... :-) ), for me it's enough with a 35 mm, only shift, no need of tilting: it would be for architecture and landscape. BerndReini Posted November 24, 2015 Share #87 Posted November 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I agree with a shift only lens. Shouldn't it be possible to make a shift adapter for the SL to be used with all S-lenses. The S-lenses have more coverage, so theoretically that could be used for shift movements. Jeff S Posted November 24, 2015 Share #88 Posted November 24, 2015 A tiny bit of tilt can really help near/far focus in landscape shots, although I can understand the added lens complexity and cost. These days, digital PP actions can simulate shifts, albeit with some crop, while tilt actions are more complicated. A friend who uses both large format film and Canon digital, really values the tilt function on his Canon T/S lenses for landscape, even in small amounts. He's still waiting, though, for the long promised update to his favorite 45 T/S (to use with his 5DS), as Canon did with some of their other T/S lenses.
