As you in Europe watch the last laps of the Monaco GP, and we in Indy watch the rain fall on the '500', here's a little Flash slideshow I made Friday night after the Indy Pro Series race in which Manchester's Alex Lloyd once again laid waste to the rest of the field and drove himself into the record books here by becoming the first man to win on both the oval and the road courses at the Speedway.

 

Pics are made with the MP/35mmf2ASPH and Kodak 100UC (for the most part) and a little bit of Fuji Superia 400 (it was on sale at the track as they clear our their remaining film inventory). Audio is lifted from the internet, and the production is made with Soundslides (my favorite photographic friend these days).

 

Volume is at "adequate" when you open so you may want to adjust.

BTW, congrats to Fernando and Lewis--a great champion and champion-in-waiting; so good to see the silver and black (and red) cars back in front again.

Another super AV show Allan (although suffering from a buffering issue at my end).

 

I watched the GP from start to finish and saw not a single overtaking move in the course of racing (except lapping slower cars under waved blue flags). Celebrity spectacle, not racing, imho.

There was a 20 second clip showing Jack Brabham, Denny Hulme etc. and those boys were out-braking and overtaking THROUGH the turns!

Thank you for the AV show! It was beautifully photographed and that is an excellent choice of music. I particularly enjoyed the sequence of shots of the crowds watching the cars brought in under the blue "Gasoline Alley" sign (ca. 2:54 to 2:42 on the countdown timer).

Looks like you had a great day as usual, Allan.

 

My only slight criticism about the slide show was the inclusion of the portrait shots, which I felt broke up the rhythm of the piece. Picky I know!

 

How come there are so few people there? Were most of these taken on a practice day, behind closed doors?

In answer I'd say that the change in aspect lends some visual movement to the show--something I want very much to create from the static images.

 

So there!!!

 

 

The crowd shots from race day are the ones where you see the blue "Gasoline Alley" banner (the ones Larry liked) as the cars are pushed out from the garages to the track. The ones with little to no crowd are from the one practice day, and from early in the day of the race before many people arrived. In all, there were over one hundred thousand people at the track the day of the race.

 

One other thing: the Speedway has two hundred and seventy-five thousand permanent seats so there can be a huge following there and still get spread out thin as you see here. What's most telling is how many people are gathered on the rooftops to watch--check out the shot with the red/white Honda car in the foreground and notice the railbirds on the top of the second floor penthouse deck.

 

There were plenty of people there, rest assured. Also, I should point out these pictures are from Friday May 25th, not the day of the Indianapolis 500 which was held yesterday May 27th.

You should check out this young man Alex Lloyd from Manchester---hell of a nice kid and a great racing talent. Manchester can be proud it produces more than just compelling soccer!
