Capture One For Q Raw Files

Recommended Posts

What sblitz said......  :-)

I have been using CP1 for years with all manner of cameras.

Like any product there is a huge array of tools available so focus on the ones that work for you. I use about 20% of its capabilities but they work exceptional well for me.

Now using it with the Q DNG files and it works a treat.

Well, I did a little playing around the other day, comparing a few pieces of software.

I looked at the same file(s) in lightroom, Capture One and Photo Mechanic.

This is clearly my subjective opinion and in no way scientific.

Lightroom looked the worst and took forever to import.

Capture One looked significantly better and was WAY quicker to import.

Photo Mechanic looked spectacular! Lightning fast to import. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to edit in Photo Mechanic. It really did render the files in a much better manner.

Just my .02 which is worth about .00

I don't know for certain but in some of the threads when the Q came out it was said that the lens was larger and then software dropped the image to 25mm. I know this isn't very scientific but if you hunt around you will find the discussion I am referencing

  • 1 month later...

All,

I moved from LR to Capture One a few months ago and am still figuring it out. Add into the mix a new Leica Q (which arrived Thursday!), and I have two questions. (I have searched about the Internet and can't seem to find answers.)

First, I use the Leica Q option to shoot raw + jpeg. (I wish there was an option for just raw.) Anyway, is there a way with Capture One to import just the raw images (and not the jpegs)?

Second, upon import, the images are TIFF 8 Bit Full Size (Adobe RGB). Is there a way that I can, instead, import TIFF 16 Bit Full Size (Adobe RGB)? Or is there an even better option than that?

Thanks for any assistance. Again, I have Googled about a good amount and can't seem to find solutions to these two questions.

By playing about, I answered my first question. I had previously been hiding jpegs via view/global filter. It was still importing raw and jpegs. But I found that, if you then hand select only the displayed raw images (per the prior hide), it then only imports the raw. That's a good enough approach until Leica, in a firmware update, creates an option to shoot only in raw.
