johnloumiles Posted September 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone else noticed that the VF of the Q is illuminated from the top by a solid white light? I compared it to the VF of the T (which is just a dark chamber lit by only the screen) and it actually does seem to improve the viewing experience. It's kind of like looking into one of those enclosed dioramas you built for a school project as a kid. I wonder if that same kind of optical reasoning used for the viewfinder. Advertisement Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Hi johnloumiles, Take a look here Illuminated Viewfinder. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
holgerf Posted October 5, 2015 Share #2 Posted October 5, 2015 Strange – I never noticed. I’m not sure however whether it improves the viewing experience: seems to reduce the contrast. Best Holgger

Yes, I noticed exactly the same as you reported above. I have also noticed a strange "white band reflex" on the EVF outer screen even if the camera is off. Basically, if you hold the camera in vertical position (mostly with the shutter button below), I can see a white band reflex on the screen if I have a light source to my right side or behind me. Did you noticed the same? It is quite annoying and it is not an electronic effect since I can see it even when camera is off. I would say it is a light reflex on the EVF outer screen. Nothing apperas if the camera is in the horizontal position.

I've come from xt1 and sony a7rii and i feel like the Q viewfinder is horrible and having the same experience as you and everyone above this thread. Were you able to get used to it? Peter L Posted March 6, 2016 Share #5 Posted March 6, 2016 I don't see the "white Light", lucky for me I Guess To me the EVF looks normal.
MickyW Posted March 6, 2016 Share #6 Posted March 6, 2016 Perfectly normal on mine too. If you really look up to the top of the inside of the viewfinder I think the white light referred to is just reflection from the screen on to the viewfinder upper housing ... not seen under normal viewing so no problem whatsoever. I also use a Fuji X-T1 (mr_aznar) and think that the viewfinder on the Q is just as good

Ive compared my a7ii with the Q and i must say the A7ii spoiled me. Overgaard did note that the viewfinder is so small that it tends to distort the image especially when you are moving. In the dark, or out shoting at night I also found a ghosting lag in low light, which other people have also found. I'm just not used to it yet, as Ive never experienced any lag on my other cam. Thank you!

MickyW Posted March 6, 2016 Share #9 Posted March 6, 2016 with comparing the xt1, do you actually think it's just as good? i find my the xt1 nice and bright and wide. i guess it's just a preference thing too. Mmmmmmmm if I had to vote on it I would have to put the viewfinder of the X-T1 first, yes, it is brighter and wider, and I especially like the rubber eye cup, a Fuji extra. In use I don't notice the difference.

In use I don't notice the difference. the rubber eyecup is nice! I guess I will have to put it in use and see how it goes, as I literally just got it and the evf got to me. Will see if it bothers me during use. I thought there was something wrong with it. thx again!
