Hi,

we went to Canda for a few weeks and during the flight from Calgary to Halifax Air Canada lost a suitcase of ours. Unfortunately there was a Super-Elmar 18 in it. There is still no sign of getting it back. Air Canada seems to have lost the luggage and they don't make any progress in finding it since August, 14th.

So I'd like to ask you for your help. If anyone of you notice the offer of a Super-Elmar-M with the serial number 04209285 (at the momement it is still unclear what happend to it, maybe it was stolen) please contact me via personal message. Thank you!

Sorry to hear of your lost Super E, what a terrible feeling it must have been when you realized it was gone.  As you now know all too well, we cannot afford to let the airlines separate us from our cameras and lenses - no matter what they say.  As I understand it, most if not all airlines will pay just $1500 USD for lost luggage, a fraction of the cost of any new Leica lens.

When I fly, I always wear my Domke photographer's vest.  My carry-on bag that contains my camera kit is always within size limits, but if push comes to shove, I will take my camera & lenses out of the bag, put them in my vest pockets and wear them on board.  Airline rules permit a passenger to have a coat/jacket/outer garment in the cabin.  A vest fits into this category.

Best of luck in finding your Super E - hopefully it will find its way back to you.

The only gear I put in checked luggage is my Gitzo CF tripod. TSA usually leaves me a nice official note that they have inspected my bag. It must look like like sticks of dynamite on their screens! It gives me hope that they are actually looking at something going through security.

This is why the Leica M is so good for travel. Much more compact than other serious systems. I have a special roller carry on bag that conforms to airline regs. I put my M outfit in my camera bag and then in the roller bag. Saves my back, too.
