Leica M with GPS handgrip

Hello fellow users,

I have seen a longer thread about the GPS "performance" in the handgrip. I got one of them, because I wanted to do some UBS connected shooting (macro and micro). Today I was out and switched the GPS function on - it took about 45 minutes until the GPS function started to work. It was downtown Vienna, in streets - but my Holux GPS does this in about 1 or 2 minutes.

Is this normal? Would it make sense to send the grip to Wetzlar to get it checked? I can´t believe that Leica produces such a slow responding system - what is your opinion?

Thanks and regards

Georg Nyman

The GPS implementation is seriously lacking in this expensive accessory.   It takes way too long to get a fix, and then if you happen to go inside for just a few minutes, it will not retain the location, forcing another search for a satellite signal.   The latter problem was identified probably a year ago as the result on one of the firmware updates but has never been fixed.  I bought mine for other purposes so I am not as disappointed as anyone who bought it for the GPS.
