CV15mm measures of the o-ring in mm: help needed!

Dear all,

 

after having gotten my new CV15 mm yesterday (based on Sean Reid's great test!), I would need help with the famous o-ring to fix the UV/IR cut. What are the exact measures in mm/cm, where to get it in Germany, and any experience? Any help very much appreciated.

I tried the O-ring approach and bought the recommended 1-5/16 inside/1-7/16th outside, 1/16th wall ring and wasted hours trying to make the thing fit. In the end I gave up and wrapped some adhesive tape sticky side out four times around itself and put a piece on either side of the 39mm filter and it fits and stays on fine,

 

As regards O-rings - seems like a LOT of work for no extra gain. IMHO.

in the German part of the forum, I posted the address of a o-ring-manufacturer. I ordered some rings from them.

C.Otto Gehrckens GmbH & Co. KG Dichtungstechnik

The ring you need is 33,05 mm inner diameter and 1,78mm wall.

They have a minimum order of 20€ (I ordered 10 rings, paid 27 Euros, shipping included).

I just wound clear scotchtape around the edge. I did it very neatly and cut off the excess. You can hardly see the tape. You can easily put on more or less depending on how tight you want the filter to fit. It's a very secure fit.

I put on a little too much and now i can hardly get it off.

Saves you 20 euro's and the wait for the o-rings.

It will also save you hours of patiently fitting O-rings, catching them as they peel off, jamming filters in out of alignment, getting 75% fitted and then not moving any further, not sitting straight, etc etc etc ....

I am in the UK - but some standards may be 'international'

 

I used the o-ring from a 'standard (UK?) metal Bath plug' - just went to my local hardware store and bought a couple.

I used heavier clear Scotch packing tape. I cut it in strips about 4" long and as wide as the filter edge. I worked around and around until I had a tight fit. It worked very nice and the filter seems very secure in the hood.

Using the 39 Leica - seems to be just a bit better in terms of cyan than the B+W on the 15. My O ring was a bit tight, but it's holding the filter in fine... LOVELY lens
