Microprism and Leica S (006) Autofocus

Let me be more precise...

If you focus on an object, say for argument purposes a high contrast one, I find that when I do this that the Autofocus-derived setting and the manual setting sometimes differ, albeit by very small increments.

I cannot find any pattern as it happens in not only the zoom but in primes.

Have you experienced this?

I spoke with David Farkas and Josh Lehrer at Leica Miami and they have heard and seen this. Their admonition is TRUST THE AF!

Any comments?

Albert

I suspect just normal variation in holding the camera, unless you were testing carefully on a good tripod. You will need to be slightly adjusting the camera angle to place the exact point that you are focusing on in the centre or within the collar area.Personally I just use the split image only, not the microprism collar.

I am confused with the "Collar Area" bit.......what is it?

My mate at the Leica Store in KL has got me one to try so I guess I will find out soon enough if I am going to like it or not :)

Thanks

Neil the screen consists of a ground glass style matte field with a centre circle comprised by the split image area surrounded by a collar of microprism area. So the microprism area is a doughnut shape around the central split image disc area. Does that make sense?
