McGirton Posted August 10, 2015 Share #1  Posted August 10, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) A quick question to the guys using a M lens on the T.  I am thinking about getting a T body to use with the M lenses I have. Now I don't like idea of having to use a EVF to focus properly, so my question is, what are your experiences with using manual focus on the T without a EVF? Is it a hassle? Is it still manageable or is it kind of gimped and one shouldn't do it?  To add some info, I just want a digital cam on the side (I shoot analog M mainly) and have a X Type 113 already, I'd replace that with the T to use my M lenses. Advertisement Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Hi McGirton, Take a look here Focussing with M Adapter without EVF?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gbealnz Posted August 10, 2015 Share #2 Â Posted August 10, 2015 McG, Hmmmm, I myself find it easier to use the EVF, but I appreciate your dislike for the EVF, I too find it clumsy and bulky. Yes, focusing without it is possible, and especially if you have time, quick moving subjects, no. I use the focus magnification to assist, both with and without the EVF. Replace the X? Hmmm, try it first. Gary
firststream Posted August 10, 2015 Share #3 Â Posted August 10, 2015 I use zone focussing almost exclusively with the T and a 21mm lens. At f/8 I have plenty of room for error; I can't speak for images taken any faster than f/4. For close-up portraiture, the magnified screen does a decent job of focussing the lens properly. Â Another advantage to not using the EVF (which, by the way I do not own): My preference is for the camera to be held straight-on, and at mid-level to the subjects being photographed. Using the rear-screen allows the holding of the camera at upper stomach height with the added advantage that I don't have to bend at the knees. Belle123 Posted August 11, 2015 Share #4 Â Posted August 11, 2015 Not meaning to turn this topic into a contest between those that like the EVF and those that don't .... It does a good job when too bright outside to see the screen. Â Something to consider. Â I dislike any camera that has no viewfinder for that reason. Â Is why I bought the T, amongst the fact it takes great photos with M lenses.
McGirton Posted August 12, 2015 Author Share #5 Â Posted August 12, 2015 gbealnz, firststream, thanks for the input! Â I mainly shoot with my analog M anyway, so I think using the enlarged patch and zone focussing will be fine on the T. I manual focus on my X113 without a EVF all the time and it's no problem. I love the idea of having that hightech camera to use with my M lenses.
