Nick De Marco Posted May 23, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) A good compilation. Just added a new gallery with Minolta CLE. I picked it up second hand from MW classics for £225 which is a great price. I good travelling camera. As it is coupled for 28/40and 90mm lenses I thought i would try the Voigtlander Nockton 40mm f1.4. It's a very nice lens I think. I used it often wide open or at f2 in this gallery to see how it would do, and i am impressed. This was my first film in a CLE, and first with the CV lens, so I am delighted so many came out OK. http://www.pbase.com/nickdemarco/minolta_cle

But I did buy the M5 they had in last week. Have seen some other CLE models for sale but not quite the bargain you got. Dunk
berndr Posted May 24, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 24, 2007 Hello, I have used a CLE with 1,4/50 and with the 2/40. But I give up because the rangefinder baselength is to short to get exact focused pictures (also with 2/40!). I think with the 1,4/40 this would also be a problem. The rest of the CLE is perfect. Kind regards, Bernd.
brunom Posted May 25, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 25, 2007 Nick I used to have a CLE and had no problems with my 35mm Summilux pre -asph , and a 50mm Lux which was used at 2-3 metres. I gave up on the CLE because of the lack of metered manual exposure control. The work around was just too fidly. I replaced it with a CL and even though that has an even shorter rangefinder base length I still have no problems with the 2 lenses mentioned above. The 35mm I've used down to its minimum focus point with pin sharp results and the 50mm at 2-3 metres. Your 40mm f/1.4's focussing on the CLE with its slightly longer rangefinder base length should be fine. Bruno.
brunom Posted May 25, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 25, 2007 The 35mm Summilux that came with the CLE I believe had an adjustment made - I think to the ring surrounding the rear element - not sure, but it worked fine, but sold it with the camera when I got rid of that. Missed the lens and ended up buying another about 4/5 years ago. Bruno
Barrington Posted April 8, 2009 Share #6 Posted April 8, 2009 I bought myself a CLE a few months back.It came with the proper 40/f2 Rokkor. It wasn't such a bargain at £400 but it is in the best condition I have ever seen one. Many I have looked at have been manky for the same money and mine is to all intents and purposes mint. All works fine but I will be sending it for a general service just to be on the safe side.I have been giving it lots of use and I prefer it to the CL I once had-mainly because it has a better finder! laptoprob Posted April 8, 2009 Share #8 Posted April 8, 2009 Nice combo, Nick. Is yours a multi coated Nokton? I have been thinking about that lens for the CLE, but it's so close to 35 and 50, so I didn't. You will find it is a remarkably strong camera. I have had mine shaking about while cycling, with no problems. The meter is sensitive to highlights though. Sadly it has no exposure lock. That's the biggest drawback to me. You know about the TTL flash system? I haven't used flash with rf's much, but it works perfectly.
MPerson Posted April 8, 2009 Share #9 Posted April 8, 2009 The Rokkor-M 28/2.8 is quite a nice lens if you can find one without the dreaded white spots and is perfect for my CL. I also have the Nokton 40/1.4 single coated and it has usurped my Cron 35/2 ASPH which is now left in its box! Minolta CLE
