Msohio Posted July 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 25, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use a couple of DoF calculator apps for my DSLR's and none of these yet incude the Leica Q. Previous models are listed, but not the Q yet. Would not expect it there yet anyway given the recent release of the Q. In your experience, what older body with a 28mm lens would be the closest DoF chart to the Q?? I see quite a variance given various Leica bodies. I am guessing that about 50-75 feet, even at f/1.7, everything is sharp. I am thinking for interior shots at maybe half that distance. Camera due next week, so I am asking rather than doing the footwork to find out. Guess it shows how anxious I am for its arrival.

Msohio Posted July 25, 2015 Author Share #2 Posted July 25, 2015 Now that was a dumb question as I just realized the Leica lens has the Dof right on it. I guess I am over anxious, huh? No more questions until it is in my hot little hands.
pop Posted July 25, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 25, 2015 It is a full format camera. That means the size of the image made by the lens is 24 by 36mm. You can use the DOF calculator for any camera using 35mm Film with an 28mm lens, such as a IIf or an M6 or - indeed - any M type camera.
Msohio Posted July 25, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted July 25, 2015 I did not realize that. In fact my Dof calculator app shows for my Nikon 810 and the Leica M are the same for 28mm at f/1.7 at 50 feet. I just assumed the distance from the sensor might vary from full frame body to full frame body which would alter the DoF a bit. Good to know otherwise. Thank you for the info. I see Basel on your plate. We are taking the Basel to Amsterdam Viking Cruise in late September through early October. It will be the Q's first stamp on its passport. pop Posted July 25, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2015 That looks like a very nice cruise. If it's the page I just had a look at, the building right in the middle of that picture is where I used to work until a few years ago. It's the building with the great number of chimneys: http://www.vikingrivercruises.com/images/Day9-BaselBridge_478x345_tcm21-30790.jpg
