Brass spots on sensor

For a few weeks now I have been seeing what looks like bright, brass, spots on my sensor.

Normal cleaning with Eclipse/E2 do not remove them or even move them around. The image posted is of the sensor with the spots circled. The one I notice the most is the one in the upper right hand side of the image, although it appears blurry it is visiable to the naked eye. It is actually on the left hand side of the sensor just below the mid point. The image posted is with the camera up side down, IE shutter release at the bottom of the image. The other spots showed up in the viewfinder of my D200 when taking the shots trying to expose, capture, the one spot I see every time I clean the sensor, IE the one mentioned above. You have to have the light and your eye in the right place for the light to bounce off them to see them

I'm wondering if I should send it in to Leica NJ along with the images I have take opf them for service. I really don't see these spots in any images I have take but they really bother me. Even more now that I know I have more then one.

It looks like I'll be without my M8 for some time.

I wonder if the surface of the sensor IR filter has lost it's anti-reflection coating in the areas where the bright spots occur. The spots could be caused by reflections from the uncoated glass surface which would be much brighter than reflections from the surroundings. If that's the case the difference in transmission between a spot and it's surroundings is likely to be only a few percent at the most which could be why they don't show up on an image from the camera.

Another possibility could be contamination of the coating which has caused it to lose it's anti reflection properties. I've seen that effect on multicoated lenses but usually you can clean off the contamination and the coating goes back to being anti reflective again and the spots are no longer visible.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't think those spots have lost it's anti reflective coating. They sure look brassy in color.

If it was a anti reflective coating problem I don't think they'ed look like brass particles.

Can you get any impression of whether the spots are on the front surface of the sensor or inside the cover glass? It might be a contamination issue when the cover glass was mounted and static is causing this debris to cling to the inside.

I'd send a picture of the spots for their comments...
