M3 DS - is the advance lever spring loaded?

Hello all,

someone just mentioned the advance lever of my double stroke M3 is not fully spring loaded. After letting go the lever, the spring will pull it back to the position shown rather than to the shutter dial. Funnily I never recognized this point I just got used go guide the lever back with my thumb, I thought it was meant to be this way.

Just out of interest, I wouldn't bother to change it - does someone know, whether the spring of the advance lever of a DS should pull it back to the shutter dial?

Stefan,

This indeed is the correct 'stand-off' position of the DS version. Allows you to shoot with your right eye and advance the film without taking the camera from your face. On the single stroke versions the lever sat closer to the body whe returned from winding.

Also - yours must be a relatively early DS. The early advance levers were shorter, designed slightly differently and did stand off a little further. If you changed your advance lever for one from the current MP, the 'stand-off' position would be closer to the body.

To make the long story short - there is nothing wrong with your M3.

Best,

Jan
