fiftyonepointsix Posted July 14, 2015 Share #21 Posted July 14, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I miss heavy metal... The first IR sensor that I worked with used 7-track computer tape- Ran the tape backwards to get it past the errors in the IRG. The second one (1984) used 28-track High-Density Digital Tape, 11GBytes per tape. 15-bit A/D's. That was a lot of data back then. The worst part of using Digital cameras versus film cameras: I can easily shim a lens myself, calibrate the RF, clean the VF/RF, adjust the shutter... I get frustrated not being able to modify the camera firmware to get it the way I want. I deal with it. With Discreet mode on the M9 : it worked perfectly for years, someone messed it up in firmware. It could be corrected, the hardware supports the operation. Probably a Polling Loop and some state flags need to be added as a work around. The M Monochrom did not get the firmware support required to correct these errors, the M, T, Q etc got the "A" team. Leica would have done better to introduce the next generation M with the same hardware and firmware platform available as color and monochrome, would get firmware revisions in sync and cut the effort in half. Alberti Posted July 28, 2015 Share #22 Posted July 28, 2015 I love the MM discrete mode because it makes my shutter release behave just like the M2. I lost my 'half-pressed' memory but I have a very nice soft and quick release process if I may call it so. It is not for the sake of low sound (like the M8) that I use it. Back to the OP: It never failed on me.
-Lss- Posted August 2, 2015 Share #23 Posted August 2, 2015 Just do not use discreet with continuous exposures. Doesn't that make common sense? I have an M8, which luckily is a camera model that works correctly. I would rather not use continuous at all than do a menu dance switching discrete mode off and back on every time I need continous mode. What you describe makes absolutely no sense at all from usability point of view. It escapes me why anyone would argue otherwise. Of course, it is fine to point out a workaround but it seems this was not the intention here.
