I love my X Vario for its unbeatable auto white balance and color fidelity. I wanted to love the X 113, but in my short lived ownership I came to discover that compared to X Vario, the X 113 behaves so much differently. The out of camera pictures and the screen in real time framing both demonstrated color deviation. What's worse, the AWB reading changes under different ambient color temperature so you can not just manually adjust it once and call it good.

Of course I most likely won't be noticing or complaining about the X without the comparison.

For those of you who have both X Vario and X 113, are you having the same problem? I am secretly hoping it's just a bad copy.

If this is indeed a flaw, Leica, please fix it. Hopefully it can be done via a firmware upgrade.

Only have "x" 113... About pictures - I presume, this are jpgs out of camera, and here may be, that conversion in 113 is different to vario. Also, vario picture is taken with iso 2000, and colours could be slightly desaturated - that's at least how I see them. Finaly, the difference could be anulated in post procession of DNGs!

Yes both pictures are jpg straight out of the camera. Working on DNG is a different topic and I am not intersted in that.

The camera settings on the X and XV are identical when I took the pictures. Both are auto white balance. Film mode, saturation, sharpness and contrast all set to standard.

The X Vario picutre duplicates what my eyes see. The X 113 is warmer, yellower.

Mine are almost identical, with very slight color differences that are consistent and thus likely lens related.  I prefer the X 113, but X Vario is also excellent.  That said, I'll likely sell my XV soon as I really enjoy the X's low light capabilities.

Do you care to post some side by side comparison shots from YOUR X and XV?

I noted that my X was making slightly yellower than desired JPEGs and couldn't remember what I'd done to throw it off. So I reset it to factory defaults then adjusted the color balance to meet my desires.  I doesn't take much...

If I can find the time.  I rarely carry both as I tend to be a "one camera, one lens" kind of photographer.

Here are a few, but the flowers differ mostly because the lenses have different magnification ratios, different focal length and shooting distance.  Remember the X Vario only focuses close at 70m, while the X is always 35mm (equivalent), so distance was double with the X Vario.

Thank you! Focal length difference apart, if all other settings on the two cameras are identical, I have to say I like the X Vario picture. It has a slight pink tone that is more natural. The picture from the X has a yellow tone. This makes think it's not that I had a bad sample, but rather the color pallete on the two cameras are different (for JPGs, and for real time LCD view).

I would say its the color palette of the lens.  X Vario is better for places and things, X for people (imo).

Both pairs were shot at ISO 1600, but the X was at f/2.8 and 23mm while the X Vario was at f/6.5 and 46mm.  Both on AWB.  I don't recall the JPEG settings as at some point recently I switched from vivid to natural and am not sure if these were before the switch (probably).

Could be. I am not sure how auto white balance works. I've googled this topic a little and it doesn't yield too much. Anyway I will give the X another chance and see if a different sample makes the difference.

X has become my most-used camera.

I think the problem may be isolated to a bad sample. I doubt Leica would implement a warmer color pallete on the brown/silver edition.

Anyway bought a black one. And this time everyting works great. The color fidality is fabulous. Love the X!
