Bigfeet Posted July 9, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) During a very exciting shoot today, I completely forgot to rewind my film and I remove the bottom plate. Am I safe in assuming all of the pictures are gone forever? Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice. I've been shooting film on and off for since 2007 and this was a first for me. Advertisement Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Hi Bigfeet, Take a look here I made a huge mistake today with my M7. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted July 9, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 9, 2015 You aren't the first, or the last…. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/37746-i-guess-weve-all-done-this/ Probably many to salvage. Jeff
M9reno Posted July 9, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2015 Most likely just the end of the roll got ruined, unless it was very bright, or you didn't replace the cover quickly.
McGirton Posted July 9, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 9, 2015 There will be some light leakage on the lower edge of the film but it could be mostly fine except the very end of the film.
wattsy Posted July 9, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 9, 2015 Yes, depending upon the ambient light and how quickly you put the base plate back on, it is unlikely you have ruined the entire roll. There can't be many Leica users who haven't made this mistake at least once.
Bigfeet Posted July 9, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted July 9, 2015 Thank you all so much for the replies. I plan on developing the roll when I return home. Fingers crossed that only the last few images are toast. Bigfeet
A miller Posted July 9, 2015 Share #7 Posted July 9, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I believe that stuff like this is devine intervention. Just go with it in stride.
sblitz Posted July 9, 2015 Share #8 Posted July 9, 2015 divine intervention indeed!!!!!! In my experience, if you opened and closed fairly quickly and it was subdued light, the last few shots are probably not good but the rest of the roll should be fine. Pedro Posted July 9, 2015 Share #9 Posted July 9, 2015 Good luck! And post here the best photo you'll find on that film roll. Even if damaged
Manoleica Posted July 9, 2015 Share #10 Posted July 9, 2015 I too made a big mistake to-day - after the recent M-P Typ240 FW update I didn't check every setting on my Safari'' -- able to save quite a few, thanks to PP... I blasphemed (^#$*&>>?) - wifey smiled & said, don't look at me, you're the photographer...
piblondin Posted July 9, 2015 Share #11 Posted July 9, 2015 Depends on the ambient light and how quickly you replaced the cover. I once did this indoors and quickly replaced the cover. I don't recall having lost any critical images.

I love the color combo along with the brown leather strap. Bigfeet
smkoush Posted July 10, 2015 Share #13 Posted July 10, 2015 I made the same mistake twice. First time, it was Tri-X and I lost 9 photographs out of 37, basically the ones at the very end of the film. Second time it was Rollei Infrared, and I lost the entire film.
friedeye Posted July 10, 2015 Share #14 Posted July 10, 2015 Just did it last month. In the house, at night, so I only lost 5 shots and had edge flash on a couple of others.

In my experience (and sooner or later most of us have this experience), some pictures had evidence of the gaffe, but 3/4 of them were completely fine. Bigfeet The Safari is excellent, most shortcomings are down to user error.Overall a fabulous camera & fabulous results. I don't use the Leica strap. If you look closely at my avatar you can see the current strap. (Very comfortable and the red goes well with the overall idiom of the Safari..) Bigfeet Posted July 17, 2015 Author Share #17 Posted July 17, 2015 Well, I just picked up my film. You were all correct. I only lost 4 pictures from the roll. I was so happy and relieved. I had recreated two of the last pictures to be safe, so in reality I only lost 2 images total. I have attached the worst image from the exposed roll for you all to see. Bigfeet Welcome, dear visitor!
