w2010no Posted July 5, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 5, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I noticed if switch to macro, the max aperture will be set to f2.8. I remember my old rx1 was max f2.0 even switched to macro mode.

bernie.lcf Posted July 6, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 6, 2015 Normal behaviour for any meaningful macro lens, max. aperture drops at close distances. The Nikkor 105, for instance, drops from f2.8 to f.4.5.
kkonkkrete Posted July 6, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2015 I never shoot macro at less than f/8. Usually more like f/16.
bernie.lcf Posted July 6, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 6, 2015 Yes, most would. Depth of fields becomes less the closer you focus; consequently most people shoot min. f8 or smaller in macro mode and (real) macro lenses would close down to f32 rather than the usual f16 or f22. I would say that in the DSLR area nobody talks about the lens stopping down at close ranges, because you need to be into macro photography to want to buy a dedicated macro lens (and consequently, you'd now about these things). The Q comes with macro mode "for free" and a lot more folks are scratching their heads about the lens stopping down a nudge.
