Is it possible to lock the wheel on the back of the camera?

Hi all,

Its been a while since I visited the forum so am glad to be back. So I picked up my 'Q' on Wednesday and am having the usual quirks one has with a new camera. Does anyone know how the turn off or lock the back wheel on the camera - I shot my first assignment with the camera today and it quickly turned into a pain - I have the camera focus point set to 'selective' or spot focusing. I carry the camera on my side or chest as normal but every time I raised the camera to my eye the focus point was in a completely different place - all over the place - If this wheel cannot be 'locked down' its a design disaster by Leica (along with my second gripe about only being able to see my images in the finder if I don't want to have the back lcd on all the time). Thoughts, advice and ideas are so welcome? Best, Charles Ommanney

No I don't think so. I find it strange that your having this problem as in over a week's use and carrying the camera either at my side or on my chest have never had this issue. The wheel on mine has very positive clicks and would be quite hard to move by something just rubbing against it so I wonder if yours is a little loose.

As my above post was written in a moment of insomnia in the middle of the night I may have partially misunderstood your issue. Are you talking about the pad on the back or the wheel on the top of the back. On reading better I presume you mean the pad with the directional arrows. I personally don't find that this happens with me.

Hi David,

Yes I mean the directional 'pad' on the back - the exposure comp dial is just fine. It takes very little to move the focus point with this dial. I have resulted in putting gaffer's tape over it and that kind of works. But for me as a working photojournalist its a problem that I think Leica could easily address if there isn't a way of locking it down. (charlesommanney.com)

Best wishes and thank you for taking the time to write,

Charles

Hi Charles

Firstly I checked out your website, some really inspiring work and I can see how the Q would really fit your style of reportage and as a Pro it would be great if Leica can get it right for people like you rather than those who want something with a red dot hanging round their neck. That said I feel that they have this camera about 95% right which is pretty good really. Now to the issue. I know that leica like to keep thing minimalist but I do find that on the modern digital camera the possibility  to customise the button and menus is really vital. Personally I would suggest that they make the 'delete' button, which has no function in shooting mode, configurable in various ways and one of these could be the option  that you have to have it pressed to move the focus spot (of course this could be off if you so wish). Again as you are a Pro I would suggest you contact Leica directly about this as they should really take on board points brought up from people like you. Best of luck with it
