Advertisement Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Hi Jeremy Spark, Take a look here Rare Elmar 35mm? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
willeica Posted March 18, 2018 Share #22 Posted March 18, 2018 With a number like this on the mount, the lens is almost certainly one that is matched with a non standardised I model C. The 3 digits here would be the last 3 digits in the serial of the matching camera. If the lens does not work with the rangefinder on your Model II, you should still be able to use it for 'zone focus' with a suitable viewfinder. I have often used a 35mm Elmar with 'zone focus' on one of my Leica Standards with no rangefinder and a 35mm viewfinder mounted in the shoe. It works very well. Jeremy Spark Posted March 18, 2018 Share #23 Posted March 18, 2018 (edited) Thanks for the answere! I have one more question about it. The problem is, that I can use the 35Elmar with the rangefinder, but only to 1meter. Exactly as it can work with a 1mtr close focus Elmar. But if I go under 1 mtr, the two pictures of the finder "jumps", and start to move unusually. So it seems to me, that the inner tube, wich should work with the rangefinder (wich has that step in the mount - second picture) is not originally compares the other with the metering scale on it, wich has to be attached to the cameras mount. Where you see the step on the tubes end, there's the point, where te rangefinder jumps at 1 meter. But why would it be like that, if the meter scale says, that I can focus up to 0,5. I think the inner part is a 1 mtr tube, and originally it had a 1 mtr scale ring. . Edited March 18, 2018 by Jeremy Spark
willeica Posted March 18, 2018 Share #24 Posted March 18, 2018 1 metre must be the minimum focus distance for the rangefinder. This was the minimum focus distance for most early Leica lenses. Earlier models such as the I Model A Close Focus model ( with lens marked in feet) did not have this issue, of course, as they did not have a rangefinder and they could focus down to 1.5 feet. The 35mm lens which you have would have been similarly designed for a camera with no rangefinder. If you use the lens as I suggested you will have no issues. You asked in another thread about finding the matching camera for the lens. This would be virtually impossible. The lens is best used for zone focus using the distance information on the lens barrel. Use it well stopped down also to overcome any issues with the non standardised nature of the lens. Otherwise, it is a very interesting collectors item.
